Srinagar, Jan 12 (KNO): The residents of Kumar Mohalla in Arigam village of Tral hamlet in Pulwama district are up in arms against Power Development Department (PDD) as they have alleged that authorities aren't installing 63 KVA transformer in the area which is lying there since last 20 days. Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Kumar Mohalla which consists of around 30 households is reeling under darkness as their line gets damaged everyday. They said that a new transformer was approved way before for the village and after hectic efforts it was brought to village around 20 days before but due to unknown reasons it is not being installed. Ishfaq Ahmad, a local resident, said that dozens of times people had a miraculous escape as Low Tension (LT) line often falls down in the area. He said that “you won't find a day when our lines don't get damaged due to which power supply remains disconnected for hours.” He said that many domestic animals have died in the area in recent past after touching the live wire after it fell down. Locals said that “they have brought issues of dangling wires and other issues in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.” Meanwhile, the residents of new colony Jawbaira in Awantipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district are up in arms against PDD as the PDD authorities have failed to repair their damaged transformer that according to them is developing technical snag frequently due to heavy load. They said that we repaired the transformer several times but it gets damaged again and again due to heavy load as whenever the transformer is repaired and installed back, it works for few hours hardly. They added: “In absence of electricity, they are suffering for want of water as well as water supply in the area is also dependent on electricity.” “Exams are going on besides that in this bone chilling cold, electricity is must but authorities have failed to take our issues seriously,” they said. They further added that time and again authorities of the department were informed to look into the matter, however, on ground nothing has happened.
